Natural Lacquer Bookmark Workshop
from £15.00
Limit 1 per order

Discover the beauty of East Asian lacquer art through a contemporary marbling experience.

Natural lacquer, known as "Urushi" in Japan and traditionally used throughout China and East Asia, has been treasured for thousands of years for its durability, elegance, and unique surface effects. While lacquer has traditionally been applied to furniture, vessels, and decorative objects, contemporary artists continue to explore new creative possibilities with this remarkable material.

In this hands-on workshop, participants will experiment with floating lacquer techniques inspired by marbling processes. Colours are carefully floated and manipulated to create unique patterns before being transferred onto bookmarks and a traditional folding fan.

No prior experience is required. Participants will learn about the history of lacquer, observe demonstrations, and create their own personalised designs.
